Membership is divided into four groups:

Active membership shall consist of piano teachers whose qualifications include either:

  1. A degree or diploma in music with concentration in piano OR
  2. A minimum of five years of piano teaching with proof of study in the areas of piano pedagogy, music theory and applied piano.

Active members shall have the right to vote, to hold office, and to enter qualified pupils in piano recitals and competition.

Associate members shall be those individuals who are not eligible for active membership, but who are directly interested in the activities of the corporation. Associate members shall not have the right to vote, to hold office, or to enter students in NEPTA recitals or competitions. An associate member may apply for active membership after fulfillment of qualifications for Active membership.

Student membership shall include those students up to and including the age of 25 who are pursuing a music education at an accredited college or college-level music school. Student members shall not have the right to vote, to hold office, or to enter students in NEPTA recitals or competitions.

Honorary members shall be such individuals as the New England Piano Teachers’ Association Inc. shall desire to distinguish with this honor and shall be elected every 5 years only by the unanimous vote of the Board of Directors at any regular meeting thereof.
