Active members of NEPTA are privileged to present their students in recital providing a performance opportunity for secure and fluent performers. Eligibility for all recitals: student must have studied piano since September of the current academic year with this same member in good standing (dues received by December 1 or by recital application deadline for Halloween and Music for Hope recitals).

HALLOWEEN PIANO PARTY – October 23, 2022
Grade in school: K-6
Time limit: 2 minutes per student

This recital provides an opportunity to perform in a friendly setting.
Costumes and Halloween music are welcome and encouraged!

MUSIC FOR HOPE: A CHARITABLE RECITAL – November 19, 2022
Grade/age: All ages and levels, including adult students (K-adult)
Time limit: 5 minutes per student
This event is online via Zoom

Music for Hope is a recital to raise funds to support piano lessons for students in need (including NEPTA students). Its creation was inspired by the crossroads of COVID-19 and racial injustice to provide hope through music. Recital registration proceeds, and 100% of donations received beyond the recital registration fee will go toward this fund. All musical styles and compositions are encouraged. Our students will be helping students in need just by registering for this recital!

JUNIOR I RECITALS – January 8, 2022
Grade in school: K–4
Time limit: 4 minutes for one student, 7 minutes total for two students (no exceptions)

JUNIOR II RECITALS – January 22, 2022
Grade in school: 4–6
Time limit: 5 minutes for one student, 8 minutes total for two students (no exceptions)

INTERMEDIATE I RECITALS – January 29, 2023
Grade in school: 6-8
Years studied: minimum of 3
Time limit: 5 minutes for one student, 8 minutes total for two students (no exceptions)

Three 7th graders will be eligible for the NANCY OLIVA AWARD. See requirement details on the Awards Page

INTERMEDIATE II RECITALS – February 5, 2023
Grade in school: 7–12
Years studied: minimum of 4
Time limit: 8 minutes (no exceptions)

Three 8th graders will be eligible for the WANDA PAIK AWARD. See requirement details on the Awards Page.

COMPOSITION RECITAL – February 12, 2023
Grades K–5: (solo or ensemble): 4 minutes (no exceptions)
Grades 6–12: (solo piano): 6 minutes (no exceptions)
Grades 6–12: (ensemble): 8 minutes (no exceptions)

The ALICE PROCTER AWARD will be awarded for an outstanding  original composition in the classical style.   Original jazz/pop compositions, improvisations, and arrangements will be considered for the LOUISE HODDER OLSEN AWARD.

JAZZ & POP RECITAL – February 12, 2023
Grades K–5: 4 minutes (no exceptions)
Grades 6–12: 6 minutes (no exceptions)

20th/21st CENTURY RECITAL – February 12, 2023
Grade in school: K–12
Level of playing: intermediate or advanced level
Time limit: up to 10 minutes for one piece (no exceptions)

SENIOR RECITAL – March 5, 2023
Grade in school: 9–12
Years studied: minimum of 4
Time limit: 10 minutes (no exceptions)

DUET/ENSEMBLE RECITAL – April 2, 2023
Grade in school: K–12
Level of playing: intermediate or advanced
Grades K–4: 4 minutes (no exceptions)
Grades 5–12: 8 minutes (no exceptions)

Instrumentation: any combination of instruments and/or voice that includes one piano. Parents and are invited to play with their children in this recital.  There will be two pianos available. NEPTA teachers may perform duets with their students in this recital.

ADULT RECITAL – April 2, 2023
Age: 18 years or older
Level of playing: intermediate or advanced
Time limit: 10 minutes (no exceptions)


Prerequisite Recitals for the Middle School Competition:
GRADE 6: JUNIOR II or INTERMEDIATE I or 20th/21st CENTURY
GRADE 7-8: INTERMEDIATE I or INTERMEDIATE II or 20th /21st CENTURY

Prerequisite Recitals for the Ruth Davidson Competition:
GRADES 9-10: INTERMEDIATE II or SENIOR or 20th /21st CENTURY

Prerequisite Recitals for the Alice Hamlet Competition:
GRADE 11-12: INTERMEDIATE II or SENIOR or 20th /21st CENTURY
