DESCRIPTION:Teachers’ Masterclass with Eric Fung\nThis event is in person only. Guests may register here for $20\nDr. Eric Fung is a distinguished Chinese-American pianist renowned for his “vibrant vitality\, unflappable logic\, flexibility in nuances\, and requisite lyricism\,” as lauded by the New York Concert Review. In 2002\, he was awarded the prestigious title of “Bach Prize Winner” at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig\, Germany\, in recognition of his profound interpretation of the composer’s works. His doctoral dissertation\, Johann Sebastian Bach’s Overture in the French Manner\, BWV 831: A Study in Motive\, Harmony\, and Rhythm\, further exemplifies his dedication to deriving musical interpretation through rigorous research and analysis. \nBorn in Hong Kong\, Dr. Fung began his formal music training at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts under the tutelage of Eva Lue. He earned the Piano Performance Diploma from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (UK) before pursuing further studies in the United States. He holds degrees in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music (BM\, Performer’s Certificate\, and MM) and the Juilliard School (DMA)\, two of the world’s leading conservatories. His principal teachers include Natalya Antonova\, Martin Canin (student of Rosina Lhévinne)\, and Oxana Yablonskaya (student of Tatiana Nikolayeva)\, linking him to the Russian piano tradition. He has also received coaching from esteemed pedagogues such as Boris Berman\, Christopher Elton\, Claude Frank\, Peter Frankl\, and Robert Levin in masterclasses. \nDuring his formative years\, Dr. Fung developed a deep interest in music theory and analysis. At Eastman\, he studied under Matthew Brown and Steven Laitz\, earning a master’s degree in music theory pedagogy. His research at Juilliard was supervised by Carl Schachter\, a preeminent authority of Schenkerian analysis. \nAs a performer\, Dr. Fung has received accolades from eminent music critics. Following his performance of Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Juilliard Orchestra at Lincoln Center under Maestro Otto Werner Mueller\, Anthony Tommasini of the New York Times praised his playing as “refined and elegant.” Harris Goldsmith of the New York Concert Review\, after his Carnegie Hall performance\, described him as “a pianist with a musical persona akin to Rudolf Serkin.”  The Hong Kong Economic Review noted his unique aesthetic\, tracing it back to his study and passion for Bach’s works. \nDr. Fung has collaborated with numerous orchestras around the world\, including the Juilliard Orchestra\, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra\, Middle Germany Chamber Orchestra\, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra\, Hershey Symphony Orchestra\, Lebanon Valley College Orchestra\, Central Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra\, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Orchestra. He has also been a featured artist at international music festivals such as the Israel Festival in Jerusalem\, European Piano Forum in Berlin\, Puigcerda Music Festival in Spain\, Philadelphia Bach Festival\, Kamerman Piano Series in Pensacola\, Lancaster International Piano Festival\, and the Hong Kong Arts Festival. \nIn 2022\, Dr. Fung broadened his performance horizon by joining the cast of Nadia\, a play with chamber music about the legendary French music pedagogue Nadia Boulanger\, written by Mina Fisher. He has since become a regular cast member\, collaborating with mezzo-sopranos Maria Jette and Adriana Zabala\, and violinists Stephanie Arado and Stéphanie Moraly in performances on stages in US and France. \nDr. Fung is currently the Carmean Endowed Professor of Music (Piano Performance) at Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania. As an educator\, he has conducted masterclasses and lectures at numerous institutions and professional organizations\, including the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance in Israel\, Sichuan Conservatory of Music in China\, Xinghai Conservatory of Music in China\, National Tainan University in Taiwan\, National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan\, Soochow University in Taiwan\, East Tennessee State University\, Hope College in Michigan\, University of Illinois at Carbondale\, Hong Kong Baptist University\, the Chinese University of Hong Kong\, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts\, the Tom Lee Music Foundation\, and numerous music teacher associations. He frequently adjudicates competitions\, including the Lancaster Symphony Concerto Competition\, Greater Princeton Steinway Society Scholarship Competition\, New Jersey Music Teachers Association Piano Competition\, and MTNA Competition. He was inducted into the Steinway Teacher Hall of Fame in October 2025. \nDr. Eric Fung is a Steinway Artist. \n\nThe NEPTA Teachers’ Masterclass is an example of Educational Enrichment\, and is one of the many benefits provided by NEPTA to its members. She is known for thoughtfully curated programs that bridge musical traditions\, collaborating with living composers\, and bringing fresh perspectives to both contemporary and classical repertoire. \nA recipient of the Henry Kohn Award from the Tanglewood Music Center\, first prize in the Mikhashoff International Pianist-Composer Competition\, an Honorary Fellowship from the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra\, and the Aaron Copland Recording Grant\, Chang has performed as a soloist with the Brevard Music Center Sinfonietta\, Charleston Symphony Orchestra\, Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra\, Wonju Philharmonic Orchestra (South Korea)\, Montgomery Symphony Orchestra\, and Virtuosi of the Festival Internacional de Música in Recife (Brazil)\, among others. She recently premiered Igerthi\, a piano concerto written for her by Sungji Hong\, with Intersection Music in Nashville and later performed it with Polymorphia Ensemble. Her recordings can be found on Albany\, Centaur\, Parma\, and Sony Korea. \nSince 2016 she has led Continuum 88\, a collaborative project that dedicates each concert season to a specific genre of piano repertoire—such as sonatas\, etudes\, and variations—interweaving masterworks of the piano literature with newly commissioned works by emerging composers. To date the project has resulted in ten new works by composers of diverse backgrounds and styles and more than twenty performances in the United States\, South Korea\, and Taiwan. Recent seasons revisited miniatures\, etudes\, variations\, and fantasies (2023)\, explored sonatas (2024–2025)\, etudes and fantasies (2025–2026)\, and sonatas and fantasies (2026 – 2027). \nEtudes have been central to Chang’s artistic work. She has presented recitals and lectures on the subject at major institutions and festivals and has directed the widely acclaimed BMC Etude Project at the Brevard Music Center since 2016. This initiative has facilitated the creation of more than hundred new etudes and provided young pianists with opportunities to work with the composers and premiere them. Her most recent project is Boston Etudes\, a collaboration with eight Boston-based composers. She premiered the works in a livestreamed series on her YouTube channel in 2021\, recorded them in 2022\, and released the album on New Focus Recordings in October 2024. The recording received a five-star review in Fanfare\, which praised her as “the perfect vehicle for so many diverse ideas\,” noting her “faultless technique and genuine sense of presence.

DESCRIPTION:Scholarships for Hope is a recital to raise funds to support piano lessons for students in need.  Recital registration proceeds will fund the general scholarship fund solely in support of underserved students.  All musical styles and compositions are encouraged. DESCRIPTION:Masterclass for NEPTA Students with Theresa Bogard\n\n\n\n\n\nTheresa Bogard is a distinguished American pianist renowned for her dynamic and versatile performances. She has made significant contributions to expanding the traditional piano repertoire\, particularly through her focus on music by women composers and other lesser-known composers. Early in her career\, she gained recognition for her performances of underrepresented works\, and she has continued to integrate diverse and eclectic pieces into her varied concert programs. \nA recipient of a Fulbright grant as a young pianist\, Dr. Bogard was able to study historical performance practice and fortepiano at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague in the Netherlands. Her dedication to the study and performance of historical instruments was further solidified when she became a top-prize winner in the International Mozart Fortepiano Competition in Bruges\, Belgium.  She was recently awarded a second Fulbright to focus on discovering and collecting repertoire for solo piano and chamber music with piano by Brazilian women composers. \nThroughout her career\, Bogard has performed across the globe\, with engagements spanning the United States\, Europe\, Asia\, and South America. She has played in 16 countries across five continents\, with notable performances at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and the Ravinia Steans Institute\, where she performed with renowned cellist Misha Quint. Her passion for world cultures is evident in her deep connection to Brazilian music. Since her first concert tour in Brazil in 2007\, she has returned frequently\, giving masterclasses and performances in major cities such as São Paulo\, Rio de Janeiro\, Goiania\, Florianopolis\, Brasilia\, Porto Alegre and Curitiba\, and has developed a profound admiration for Brazilian composers. \nIn addition to her performance career\, Dr. Bogard is a highly respected educator. She has taught at major international music festivals\, including the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Italy and the Sulzbach-Rosenberg International Music Festival in Germany. Her students have excelled in competitions and gained acceptance into top conservatories such as The Juilliard School\, Eastman School of Music\, and Cleveland Institute of Music\, among others.
